Mahiyanganaya Pradeshiya Sabha area, which belongs to Mahiyanganaya Electoral Division in Badulla District of Uva Province, has an area of 606.437 square kilometers. Mahiyanganaya Pradeshiya Sabha consists of 35 Grama Niladhari Divisions and the main cities are Mahiyanganaya Town and Giradurukotte Town. Before the establishment of the Pradeshiya Sabha in 1990, it was administered as the Development Council and before that as the Uva Binthenna Village Council. At that time, the Village Council office was located in the building that is currently used as a holiday resort opposite the Mahiyangana Public Stadium. In the early days, the village council did not have a large income. At that time, the village council had 72 income-generating stalls, 600 assessment units, 500 trade license units, and the money received from the Mahiyangana Sati Pola as special income. Then, with the holding of the Village Udawa in Mahiyangana in 1989, the town of Mahiyangana experienced rapid development. Accordingly, the Miyugunagama division, where the Pradeshiya Sabha office is currently located, was designated as the Village Udawa site. Accordingly, there is currently a Pradeshiya Sabha building modeled after the Parliament, a Public Library modeled after the Sri Dalada Maligawa in the capital, and a Children's Library modeled after the Freedom Square building. Statues of heroes who made heroic sacrifices for the cause of Hela Diva were erected in the city of Buddha Gaya, modeled after India's Buddha Gaya. Since 1990, six terms of representation have been held in the Mahasabha and the first Chairman of the Mahiyanganaya Pradeshiya Sabha is Mr. Mahanama Dedigama. At that time, there were 12 seats for representation in the Pradeshiya Sabha and with the new amendment, the Mahiyanganaya Pradeshiya Sabha has 24 seats. Considering the religious and cultural value of the Mahiyanganaya area, the Mahiyanganaya Rajamaha Viharaya, Sorabora Tank, Mawaragala, Dambana, and Mapakada Tank can be considered, and these places are places that attract local and foreign tourists. Furthermore, the Mahaweli River, which enters the sea from the Trincomalee area, passes through the Mahiyanganaya area, adding beauty to this area. In addition, the livelihood of the people has been built on the basis of rice cultivation, a main crop, in accordance with the climatic conditions of this area, and maize cultivation has become popular as a side crop.
